Dr. Alexander Straub, Head Medicinal Chemistry
Alexander Straub, born 1959, graduated with a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, under the supervision of Professor F. Effenberger. He began his career in 1989 with Bayer AG in Wuppertal as a medicinal chemist, working in drug discovery programmes with a cardiovascular focus. In 2000, he moved to the Bayer CropScience division, working in process research on several developmental products in Monheim, and then moved to Dormagen as a process development chemist. From 2008 to 2019, he has been a Principal Research Scientist at Bayer AG, Pharma, Wuppertal, working in cardiovascular indications. He has co-authored over 50 publications and 60 patent applications and is a joint inventor of the Factor Xa inhibitor blockbuster rivaroxaban (Xarelto(R)) and of the sGC stimulator riociguat (Adempas (R)).
Since 2021 he is working as a medicinal chemistry consultant for FundaMental Pharma.
