Prof. Dr. Hilmar Bading (MD), Scientific Co-Founder
Professor Dr. Hilmar Bading holds the Chair of Neurobiology at Heidelberg University. He completed his medical studies at Heidelberg University and obtained his doctorate from the Max-Planck-Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg. He worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin and at Harvard Medical School in Boston (USA). In 1993 he became head of a research group at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge (UK). Hilmar Bading has headed Heidelberg University’s Institute of Neurobiology since 2001 and the Interdisciplinary Center for Neurosciences (IZN) since 2006. He studies NMDA receptor signaling in the brain, with the goal of developing new neuroprotective therapies. His academic research is supported by an Advanced Grant and a Proof-of-Concept Grant of the European Research Council (ERC), among others. He is the scientific founder of the biotech start-up FundaMental Pharma GmbH and established the Hilmar Bading Foundation BrainAid. He is a member of the German National Academy of Science Leopoldina.
